Sony Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact launched in India

As expected, Sony India on Thursday announced its two latest flagship smartphones - the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact. The two devices represent an iteration of what Sony has been doing with its Xperia Z smartphones.
The Z3 will cost Rs 51,990 while the compact will be available at an MRP of Rs 44,990. The phones also have LTE connectivity.
Originally announced at IFA, Berlin earlier in the month, the Z3 is largely the same as its predecessor, the Xperia Z2. It retains the same processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU, but this time around it is clocked slightly faster at 2.5GHz. The device has 3GB RAM, 16GB internal memory and a microSD card slot.
It retains a 5.2-inch screen IPS screen, but Sony claims the device has better contrast ratios, viewing angles and brightness levels than its predecessor.
Its battery has been improved slightly and Sony claims now the phone can deliver all day battery life.
The biggest change perhaps is in the size of the phone. It is now slimmer at 7.3mm, which makes it quite ergonomic to hold for a phone its size. It retains an aluminium frame and has glass on both sides. The device is water-resistant and dust-proof with a higher IP67 certification from its predecessor.
On the back, it has a 20.7-megapixel camera. The phone is first smartphone to have a ISO sensitivity of 12,500. It also comes with a wider lens. On front there is a 2-megapixel camera.
The phone runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, which is customised by Sony. It also supports PlayStation streaming and comes pre-loaded with the PlayStation app.
Like the Z3, the Z3 Compact is also now slimmer than its predecessor, the Z1 compact. It also has a slightly larger battery and manages to pack in a larger 4.6-inch screen in the same amount of space as the Xperia Z1 Compact.
In terms of internal hardware and software, it is identical to the Xperia Z3.
